This paper deals with nodding in Estonian first encounter conversations. The aim of the paper is to give an overview of nodding as one of the most significant means of multimodal feedback signalling, and to compare nodding in Estonian with nodding in Finnish, Swedish and Danish. Different types of nods - up- and down-nods, one-way, single and repeated nods - are discussed in terms of frequency, durations and variations between individuals and genders.
