This paper elucidates the understanding of Patient-Reported Outcomes (PROs) among experts in a Danish context. PROs are currently implemented on a regional and national level in Denmark (DK); even though, their purpose and functionality seem unclear. Methodologically the study is based on seven semi-structured interviews with core PRO-experts. PRO was identified as: data on an individual/population level; an active/passive functionality; contextual dependent; quality improvements; Value-Based Healthcare; patient-centred care; part of clinical practice; technology and as an economic tool. An analysis of the discrepancies among PRO-experts reveals that their perceptions are associated with their experiences and/or organizational positions.
